World of Warcraft Alliance
There are several races and groups in the Warcraft universe that
players can choose to play: five Alliance races, five Horde races,
and five unallied groups. The Alliance races are Humans, Draenei,
Dwarves, Gnomes and Night Elves.
Humans
Introduced in Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and depicted as
religious, the Humans in the Warcraft universe fight against the
Orcs and the other Horde races. The Human regions are very similar
to Medieval European kingdoms. The Humans in the Warcraft universe
are descendants of an ancient nomadic tribe called the Arathi. The
city of Strom and the nation of Arathor were both founded by the
Arathi. They also created alliances with the High Elves against the
Amani Empire of Trolls.

Draenei
The last of the Eredar, the Draenei built a civilization on the
planet of Draenor. The Draenei are pursued by the Burning Legion.
The planet Draenor was eventually destroyed and the Draenei then
captured a vessel and moved to Azeroth. When their ship crashed in
the Bloodmyst and Azuremyst Isles, they made these their new home on
Azeroth. The Draenei are taller than Humans, have blue to purple
hued skin, cloven hooves and lizard-like tails. Extending from the
males' chins are appendages that look like tentacles. The females
have backward facing horns on their temples and smaller tentacle
appendages behind their jaws.
Dwarves
This short, but strong, race lives in Ironforge, a mountain city in
the Eastern Kingdoms. Dwarves have been allies with the Humans and
fought alongside them against the threats that faced the Humans.
Created from stone by the Titans, Dwarves were originally miners but
over time have become archeologists who enjoy combat and
storytelling. Their skin ranges from a dark tan color to
charcoal-grey.
Gnomes
Magical creatures that are proficient at engineering, Gnomes lived
in Gnomeregan, which is an underground city. Driven out of their
home by the Troggs, the refugee Gnomes are now living in Ironforge
with the Dwarves as they plot their revenge against the Troggs.
Gnomes are the fierce rivals of the Goblins, an engineering Horde
race. Gnome engineering is primarily made up of gears and cogs.
Gnomes are robots created by the Titans that were turned into living
creatures by the "curse of the flesh."
Night Elves
Also known as Kaldorei, which means "Children of the Stars" in their
language, Night Elves are among the oldest of Azeroth's humanoid
races. Descended from trolls who were changed by the Well of
Eternity, Night Elves have the ability to use magic and are greatly
in tune with nature. Night Elves are very strong and tall; both
males and females are very muscular. Males tend to have broad
chests and shoulders while females are lithe. Their prominent
facial features are distinctive eye brows and pointed ears. Skin
tones are widely varied from purple or pink to pale blue while hair
color can be anywhere from white to deep green to bright purple.

Humans, Draenei, Dwarves, Gnomes and Night Elves are the Alliance
races that players can choose to play in WoW. They are humanoid in
appearance and some have a long history of allying with one
another. Each Alliance race has a direct counterpart race in the
Horde and each Alliance race brings something different to the
struggle against their common enemies.
