World of Warcraft Horde

There are several races and groups in the World of Warcraft universe: five Alliance races, five Horde races and five unallied groups.  The Horde races are Orcs, Blood Elves, Forsaken, Tauren and Trolls.

Orcs

Used by the Burning Legion to invade Azeroth, Orcs are very muscular humanoids.  Personal honor and the honor of the clan are the guiding values of the Orcs.  While they do enjoy battle and the thrill of combat, they were typically peaceful before being corrupted by the Burning Legion.  They have managed to break free from the Burning Legion and now fight to maintain their place in Azeroth.  Their skin is various shades of green; some are so dark they almost look black.  Their hair color varies from black to brown to white.  Their predominant facial feature is the fangs coming from their lower jaw.

Blood Elves

Also called Sin'dorei, meaning "Children of Blood" in their language, Blood Elves split from the rest of the eleven race after the Scourge destroyed their capital.  They have aligned with the Horde due to the Alliance's mistrust of the Blood Elves' quest for a magic source.  Their quest for a magic source is fueled by their need to defend themselves from the Scourge.  The Blood Elves' capital city is in the ruins of Silvermoon City.

Forsaken

Controlling the western parts of the Kingdom of Lordaeron, the Forsaken are a group of undead that have rebelled against the Lich King.  The Forsaken regained their free will after breaking from the Lich King.  Led by Sylvanas, who has a strong desire for revenge against the Scourge, the Forsaken have aligned themselves with the Horde.  They are working towards creating a plague that will destroy the Scourge and the rest of the humanoid races.  Any alliance they have is one of convenience as they are getting their Horde allies to fight their enemy, the Lich King, for them.

Tauren

Peaceful beings who are druidic in nature, the Tauren are a bull-like race that is one of the oldest in Azeroth.  Residing in almost every Horde outpost, the Tauren became allies with the Horde after the Orcs defended them and prevented the Tauren from being eliminated.  With horned, bull heads the Tauren are similar to minotaurs and have hooves instead of feet, hands with three fingers and very tall bodies.  Their primary residence is Thunder Bluff.  The Taurens’ driving force is to maintain balance between creatures and elements.

Trolls

There are many different tribes of Troll in the Warcraft universe, but the only playable tribe is that of Darkspear.  Aligned with the Horde, the Darkspear Trolls mainly reside in the Orc city of Orgrimmar.  Formerly part of the Jungle tribes of Trolls, the Darkspear tribe split off from the Jungle Empire and left their native home on the South Seas islands.  Their alliance to the Horde is due to the Orcs preventing the Darkspear tribe from being wiped out by a group of Murlocs.

Most of the alliances between the Horde races are tenuous at best.  There is a great amount of distrust between them and most of the alliances have resulted from the Orc's defense of the other races.  Players wanting to play as part of the Horde can choose from Orcs, Blood Elves, Forsaken, Tauren and Trolls.
