World of Warcraft Professions
Characters in
World of Warcraft can have up to two primary professions and may
have as many secondary professions, such as cooking, first aid and
fishing, as they want. There are three profession categories:
gathering, producing and service. Players are recommended to choose
professions that complement each other, such as a gathering
profession that allows the character to gather the materials they
need for their producing profession. Characters gain professions
and improve in their professions by receiving training from
Non-Player Characters who are trainers for that profession. As a
character's skill level increases, they will have to move on to new
trainers to further their advancement.

Alchemy
- The mixing potions using herbs. Potions can be used for any
number of things and can be used by the alchemist, given to allies
or sold for profit. This profession combines well with Herbalism in
order to supply the herbs needed to make the potions.
Blacksmithing
- The creation of weapons and armor from metal bars. The items
a blacksmith makes can be used by the blacksmith, given to allies or
sold for profit. Blacksmithing combines well with Mining in order
to supply the metal needed to make the weaponry and armor.
Enchanting
- The practice of using magic to augment items such as weapons,
tools, clothing or armor. This is a high-level profession requiring
more work than other professions, and works well with Tailoring in
order to make items to enchant.
Engineering
- The assembling of stone and metal to make things such as
explosives, machines and tools. Many items created by engineers can
only be used by the creator and other engineers. Mining is a good
combination with Blacksmithing as it provides the materials needed
for creating products.
Herbalism
- The ability to find and collect plants that can be used in
Alchemy or sold to other characters. This profession goes well with
Alchemy as it provides the herbs needed to make potions.

metal. The Jewel Crafter’s skills are often used to improve
existing items. Jewelcrafting combines well with Mining in order to
provide the metal needed for the jewelry.

Leatherworkers can make armor for their own use, to give to allies
or to sell for a profit. Skinning can be combined with
Leatherworking to provide the animal hides needed for the armor.

also be Blacksmiths, Engineers or Jewel Crafters and use the metal
they gather themselves. They can also sell it other characters for
a profit.
Tailoring
- The creating of armor, clothes, bags and other useful items
from cloth. Tailors can create items for their own use, give items
to their allies or sell items for a profit. This profession
combines well with Enchanting as it provides items to enchant.
Skinning
- The gathering of leather by skinning dead animals. Skinners
can keep the hides for their own use, give them to allies or sell
them for a profit, and skinning can provide the leather that
Leatherworkers need to make armor.
Inscription

an ally's ability and increase the amount of damage done to an
