World of
Warcraft Requirements
System and Equipment Recommendations
World of Warcraft
is a
massively multiplayer online game that currently has more than 11
million players. The game originally debuted as Warcraft in 1994
and is now in its fourth iteration. Like other computer games, the
newest version needs the latest computer equipment. The minimum
requirements for the game are pretty standard for most recent
computers; the recommended system requirements are significantly
more demanding. WoW can be played on both Mac and Windows machines
that meet the minimum requirements. The minimum requirements are
those that are needed for the game to load and run on a given
machine. This does not necessarily mean that the game will run well
or that gamers will be satisfied with its performance on a minimally
equipped machine.

While it is
possible to get the game up and running with the minimum
requirements, successfully playing the game requires more. Playing
the game with the minimum requirements will result in the game
repeatedly freezing, choppy graphics, and long waits for images to
load. As new packs and patches are released, the minimum
requirements and recommended features will change. Serious gamers
upgrade their computers frequently to try to keep ahead of the
minimum requirements for the game. Any updates to the minimum
requirements can be found on the World of Warcraft web site under
Frequently Asked Questions (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/faq/technology.html).
At any given time
there are millions of people around the world playing World of
Warcraft. The amount of information that is passed between the WoW
servers and individual computers is staggering. Gamers today expect
high quality graphics, excellent character interaction, top-notch
sound and a smooth gaming experience. To meet the demands of their
monthly subscribers, the creators of WoW are constantly adding and
making improvements to the game. As the graphics and sound get
better, they require the receiving computers to have better cards
and processors. As interactions become faster and more complicated,
the demand on bandwidth increases. The most serious gamers tend to
consider the software and hardware recommendations to be the minimum
requirements for successful gaming.
